Wearing the same dress as in “The Case of the Brunette Bombshell”,  Hannah’s simple, yet elegant pose lent itself to this unusual painting. Without being coached, she has always been able to hold her hands in gestures that are graceful and interesting; one of the things that made her the best model I ever used. I wanted to make everything other than her skin and hair exactly the color of the dress. I learned years ago that one should not paint people on a red background so this is an attempt to fly in the face of that notion.
