My favorite artist, John Singer Sargent did a large painting called El Jaleo of a Spanish dancer illuminated by stage footlights. I wasn’t thinking of that when I painted this but when it was done the light and the turn of the head seemed very much like his. I am NOT comparing my work to his by any means, however.
