Here’s another case where the background needed to be changed for the sake of a better painting. Before a rodeo in NH, I saw this guy with a quiet moment with his horse; obviously a bonding time. Shortly after, while photographing the group for the painting “Watching All the Girls Go By”, this horse threw the old guy. A couple days later, by chance, he came in the gallery and though well into his 60s, he seemed no worse for the wear.
